Job Description

Our client is a global law firm with over 60 partners and 350 employees with offices in the heart of Cambridge, and is now looking for a Credit Controller to join their busy team. The expectations for the role are to maximise collections and minimise outstanding debtor balances and bad debt, thereby minimising the erosion of profits through overdue accounts. To carry out risk reviews, input to credit assessments and ensure appropriate credit status and risk levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and monitor monthly results via Days Sales Outstanding reports. Ensure collection targets are consistently maintained
  • Analyse accounts and prioritise for collection using Aged Debt Reports. Contact and persuade clients to pay their accounts within the specified time, without harming the relationship
  • Alert fee earners if there is a change in clients' status or deterioration in payment performance.
  • Agree escalation steps, credit restriction and report progress to fee earners
  • Deal with collection problems beyond routine stage - special letters, compromise settlements, legal action, submitting and monitoring claims in insolvency proceedings
  • Maintain and update client records on the firm's Accounting system (Dream) and the Document
  • Management System with details of collection activity, ensuring compliance with Data Protection requirements
  • Carry out regular risk reviews, assessments and routine housekeeping and produce a monthly 'Exception' report


You will have:

  • A minimum of 12 months' credit control experience within a professional services environment
  • Good level of IT skills - including Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Business degree or working towards ICM qualification (preferred)
